Composition and Article for Control of the Plum Curculio
Patent Number: 5714139
Docket Number: 22995
Serial Number: 8682894
Date Patented: 02/03/1998
Agency:
Agricultural Research Service
Issued:
February 3, 1998
Abstract:
The invention uses pheromones and traps to attract male and female adults of the plum
curculio. The plum curculio is a major pest of stone and pome fruits. The invention is an
effective way to accurately detect presence or estimate population density of plum curculio for
integrated pest management systems (IPM). Reliable detection allows growers to reduce
pesticide use by spraying only after pest populations are detected and prior to significant pest
damage.
